SOCIETY WEDDINGS.
BIG DISPLAYS AVOIDED. (tthitjsd PBKSS association—bt klkcteio TBX.KGBAPH —COPTBIOHT.) LONDON, February 12. The growing frequency with which big society weddings are quietly t and almost secretly celebrated at registry offioes is causing women writers to investigate the change. The results reveal that the pomp ana pageantry of a modern society wedding, the elaboborate bridal retinue, dress rehearsals, and exhausting receptions are literally dreaded by many brides. Furthermore, the expense involved is another factor; £4O is the fee at a fashionable Westminster church, the decorations cost another £2O, and the cost of the reception amounts to hundreds. MLLE. LENGLEN'S OPINION. PARIS, February 12. An inquisitive French newspaperman, interviewing Mile. SuzanneXenglen on the subject of her new gown shop, belately referred to Miss Helen Wills's refusal to inolude the word "nhev" in her marriage ceremony. ffianne retorted: "Why shouldn't «be? I would Willingly obey the man I loved. I don't think my dignity would be diminished by doing so."
