SPEEDWAY THRILLS.
MONICA PARK, TO-MORROW. When three Australian riders *PP ear Speedway meeting thrills in_ plenty ehou abound. This week a special bill ol iar» will be provided at Monica Park, for, 1 addition to W. Sticpewich, the popular Newcastle cyclist who has been riding henb for the past month, two other Australians will race. Frank Benish, the young South Australian, who broke a leg at the opening meeting, will a welcome reappearance, snd to-morrow night will be his IjW* time on this track, he completes n;s other engagements in New Zealand. He is the youngest overseas rider in the Dominion, but undoubtedly one of the tnost promising, and it is expected that he will do well tomorrow. He will meet N. R. Gray m three special match races. This is the first time a local rider has been matched against an Australian, and on his # rapidlyimproving form Gray will make Benish drive his machine all the way to win. The big match race will be, of course, between Sticpewich and Perkins. They both ride similar machines, and have both very fast times to their credit, not only in previous appearances in Christchurch, but also in Wellington and Auckland. In Auckland during the past two weeks kins has been doing remarkably well, and has almost beaten both Spinks and Pearce. The Auckland papers speak in glowing terms of his performances. An innovation on the programme will be a first division handicap. So far the big handicap has been an open event of sixteen riders, but a rearrangement this week cuts down the number of B Grade events and substitutes a special A Grade handicap of five races. Such a change will no doubt by the public. The visiting pilots to the Air Pageant on Saturday will be the guests of the management on this occasion, and will be highly interesfed in the daredevil riding of the competitors.
