ST. ALBANS SWIMMING BATH.
PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. A well-attended meeting of St. Albans residents was held last evening in St. Matthew's School] ocm, to make preliminary arrangements for the erection of the St. Albans swimming bath. Mr R. B. Dalley presided. Mr F. Prouting was elected vice-chairman to a>ct in Mr Dalley's absence. The chairman (Mr R. B. DaHey) said that the St. Albans people had every reason to feel encouraged and to realise that they could carry out successfully what they set their hands to. It was necessary first of all to come to a decision about the site for the bath. It would be desirable to form a small committee to discuss the question. 'Mr F. Prouting said that there was no aito actually fixed as yet, although the matter had been discussed. Several likely sites had been looked at, but very few wero suitable. A committee, consisting' of Messrs F. Prouting (convener), G. Grover, C. Wilcox, H. Sillifant. and J. Pickard, was elected to take tho question in hand. It was suggested by the chairman that a systematic house-to-house canvass of the suburb and City business areas would be a splendid means of raising funds. Mr W. Thompson stated that they should aim to collect £2OOO as soon as possible; he thought this could be easily accomplished. It was decided to distribute collecting books, to young people especially, and the organisation of /the scheme was left to the Finance Committee. The Finance Committee was elected as follows: Messrs W. Thompson, W. Rowntree, Harper, G. Hillsdon, and G. Grover. Mr C. Wilcox said that the swimming carnival would have to be gone on with immediately. There would be about five championship ■ events put on the programme by the Swimming Centre. The matter of organisation was left in the hands of a commiteee consisting. of Musars C. Wilcox, H. Sillifant, T. Stanton, and Miss Clegg, to act in co-operation with the swimming club. A Ladies' Committee was elected as follows, with the object of calling a ladies' meeting: Mrs Weston, Misses Wilcox and Thompson and Mrs Thompson. Messrs R. B. Dalley, F. Prouting, "W. Thompson, T. Stanton, W. Wallace. G. Grover, and Mrs "Weston were elected a general executive.
