WOMAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
(press association telegram.) PALMERSTON N., February 12. When a young married woman was charged in the Magistrate's Court today with attempted suicide, the police stated as the result of worry and illtreatment by her husband, she had threatened to drown herself in the river. Her husband had been drinking heavily and the family was in destitute circumstances. She had three small children, two girls, aged 7 ana 9 years, and a baby aged 4 years and 11 months. Counsel for the woman said that she had taken her children down to the river, but had no intention of carrying out her threat. Her people were willing to give her a home. The Magistrate convicted and discharged her, and an order was made foi the suppression of her name. The husband was then charged with being found helplessly drunk. He was remanded for a week in order (hat he Blight be placed under observation.
