GOVERNMENT SECURITIES.
PRIME MINISTER DENIES LACK OF APPLICATIONS. [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, February 11. A recent statement appearing in a southern newspaper to the effect that applications for 5i per cent. Government securities were tapering off was brought under the notice of the Prime Minister to-day," who announced that the statement is quite contrary to fact. Sir Joseph Ward added that applications for Government securities were coming in at quite a satisfactory rate, and that no falling off had taken ji'ace. A comparison made in the newspaper concerned between Government and local body securities, said Sir Joseph, warranted little notice, as investments in Government securities were generally made on grounds not common to investments in local body securities.
