WHIPPET RACING.
NEW ZEALAND CLUB. ANNUAL ' MEETING. . Last evening the New Zealand- Whippet Racing Club held its annual meeting at the Chamber of Commerce, when there was a good, attendance of members, the president, .Mr J, B. D. Johns, being in the chair. The annual report stated that the club had experienced another most successful year, aid had conducted 21 meetings, 14 of which took-place at. the New Brighton racecourse, three at Kairaki, two at Eaugiora, and one each at Sefton and Motukarara. Two picnics for club members had taken place, one in February "and the other on Labour Cay, and both proved most enjoyable functions. During'the year," Mr T. H. Owens "had'kindly presented . a silver cup for competition in the second-class race at the winter meeting. The following were the winners 0/ the races at the more important meetings:—rEaster Cup, Mr A. E. Smith's Bob Boy; Whippet Derby, Mr W. Quirk's Captain Tasman; Brighton Hurdles, Mr A. Musson's Lone Star; Grand National Hurdles, Miss L. Fifessiminons's Princess Eose; Burwood Cup, Miss Z. Grenfell's Colleen; Winter Cup, Mr H. J. Withey's Black Prince; Canterbury Hurdles, Mr A. Musson's Lone Star; Dominion . Handicap, Mr G. S. A. Biltcliff's Hermes; New Zealand Cup, Mrs E. Fitssimmons's Gold Tinge. ...,'.' • Christchureh dogs had also been very successful in other centres, the most Important wins recorded by them being:—Manawßtu Cup,"Mr J. B. D. Johns's Fleetwing; Southland Cup, Mrs F. E. Biltcliff's Captain Jean; Wellington Summer Cup, Mr V. Neale's; Southern Cross and Mr T. B. Owens.'s Marie Jean (dead-heat). ■. ■ ■ ■ . ' The balance-sheet. showed that the club was in a very sound position, with a credit balance of £6B. lQs 2d. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. . . The-National Association forwarided a.draft of their proposed 'system for the standardis-'ne-oi' handicapinff throurtont New Zealand.. This was discussed in detail, and, After one or two minor" amendments had been • carried, it was denided to ■ adopt- the system and to instruct the' club's delegates to: vote ; iafavour -of *a« • proposals.
