WAIHORA SPORTS.

INTERESTING RACING WITNESSED. Favoured with ideal weather, the Waihora Sports Club held its annual sports meeting in the Waihora Park, Motukarara, on Saturday. It has been the club's custom to hold the meeting on January 2nd, but a change was considered desirable on this occasion. A varied and interesting programme was put through, comprising running, cycling, whippet racing, field events, and dancing, and the large number of patrons spent a, most enjoyable day. The grass track was in good order, and the running and cycling races were very keenly contested. The principal foot race, the Waihora Handicap of 130 yds, lor which the first prize was £lO, was won by J. H. Crake, while the Waihora Cup cycling event was won by A. K. Fransden, who received a handsome cup, given by the president (Mr A. S. Duncan) and £5 in cash. A great deal of interest was centred in the whippet racing and dancing, which also drew good entries. Visitors to the sports included Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., Mr W. J. Walter (president of the Canterbury Centre of tho New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union), and other officials of the Centre. The management of the sports was good, and the lion, secretary, Mr W. C. Miller, performed his duties in a most efficient manner. At night a very enjoyable dance was held in the Motukarara Hall.
