COAL MINES DISPUTE.
LABOUR DEFENCE CORPS TO BE FORMED. (UUITID PHBSS ASSOCIATION—BY BLECTRIO TEUaOBAPH —CQPYBiaHT.) SYDNEY, December 28. At a combined meeting of the miners' lodge representatives at Newcastle, it was decided to institute a labour defence corps in the north. It was also decided to eive the executive certain powers to deal with the Rothbury position. Other decisions at the meeting indicated a strong trend towards militancy. The proposal of the Federal Prim© Minister (Mr J. H. Scullin) to subsidise production while the new award is being formulated met with a scornful and unanimous rejection. Continuous picketing of all closed mines was agreed to. A motion for a general strike, however, was defeated.
CASE HANDED TO MR JUSTICE RICH. (Received December 29th, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 29. When the coal award case came on to-day, the Chief Justice announced that he had handed the further hearing over to Mr Justice Rich. The Court adjourned till Monday to enable a decision to be made whether the proceedings should begin de novo.
