CHRISTMAS MUSIC.
RECITAL AT ST. LUKE'S
At the i-ouutUijion of Kveiisxmg at St. Luke's last night a recital of Christmas music was given, the collection being in aid of the organ repair fund, the work in respect of which is expected to be completed in February. Tho organic was Mr G. E. lioraas and the following numbers were given:—Organ solo. "Offertoire on two Christmas Themes" (Normandy Carol and "Adeste Fideles"). (Guilmant) ; baritone solo. "Christmas Night" (17th Century Melodv) (Corner-Coleman), Mr Robert J^ake; soprano solo. "The Holy Child" (Eusthope Martin). Miss C. A. Napper; contralto solo, "The Virgin's Cradle Hymn" (CornerWood), Mrs -E. W. Pidgeon; orsan solo, a Carol of the Nativity. "The Holy Boy <John Ireland), eontraho solo. "The Star of Bethlehem" (Stephen Adams), Miss C. Freeman-Brown; fantasia on Christmas Carols (for baritone solo, chorus, and orchestra), soloist. Mr Robert Lake. The chorus parts were taken by a double quartet, comprising Misses Napper, Eastwood, Freeman-Brown, Mesdames ridrreon and Gallop and Messrs Hinton. Kussell-Sumner. Ward, and the Ven. F. N. Taylor. Special hymns were suns by the congregation.
