TOURNAMENT AT TIMARU

Considering tfcc counter-attractions there -"-as a 'arize attendance of spectators, who witnessed a good afternoon"s sport. In the lirnt match for the Amuri Cup. Mriytield (handicap 2.">'.) v. fhristchnt.-h B 1 11> , each team scored rive points, Mavfield winning by 30 to .21. The Maytield team, which is a young club, played their first tournament match, :ui'l they put up a very creditable performance. The Christ-church team improved their play considerably in the lust three chukkas.

The Orbell Cup tna-teh between Christchurch A ('U') and Pareora H tl4) proved an exciting contest, and although the Pareora men put up a good game, the better combination of the visiting team told in the end. and the game coneluded: Christehurch A IS, Pareora B 15.

Christehurch B (16) v. Mayfield (25). Christehurch B: H. G. livingstone (4), Roger Johnson (3\ G. B. MeCredie (2), P. D. Hall (11. Mayfield: K. Mulligan (4), T. S. Johnson (o), Arthur Grigg (2), G. Gillies (1). In the opening stages Livingstone doubled up for Chrifitchurch. but Mulligan took the ball back. Gillies just missed a shot at the goal, and a second attempt bv Mayfield struck the post. Mavlield did most of the attacking in the" first half of the first ehukka, and from another hot attack Mulligan passed to Gillies, who scored from the centre. Mavneld '-6, Christehurch 16. Another attempt by Mayfield just missed, and Gillies again attacked, and succeeded in scoring a second time. Mayfield 27. Christehurch 16. Maytield kept up the attack, but Christehurch retaliated, and two good shots initiated by MeCredie were followed up by Johnson, who scored with a fine shot 35 yards out. Mayfield 27, Christehurch 17. On commencing the second ehukka Johuson set up a hot attack for Christehurch, but after a good run Mayfield iust managed to clear. A spell of even plan followed, till Christehurch attacked and Johnson scored from the centre. Mayfield 27, Christehurch 18. Christehurch pressed for some time but the defence held, and the second ehukka ended with Mayfield attacking. Mayfield 27, Christehurch 18. The third ehukka opened with a hard attack bv Livingstone and MeCredie, but Johnson repulsed the attack and plav returned to midncld. Mayfield retaliated vigorously and Gillies scored. Mavfield 28, Christehurch 18. T. S. Fohuson set up a fast attaek and phot a goal with a smart back-hand. Mayfield 29, Christehurch 18. A keen tussle took place outside Christchureh's goal, but Livingstone cleared nicely. Christehurch broke away, and Hall's attempt at goal just missed, and the ehukka ended: Mayfield 29, Christehurch 18. -,.... u In the fourth ehukka Christehurch attacked, but Mulligan cleared with a back-hand shot. Mayfield responded with a fast attack, but the defence held, and Christehurch broke away and reversed the position. Mayfield came back and concerted play resulted in a goal being registered. Mayfield dU, Christehurch 18. Hall led a nice Christehurch attack and swept down the field, but Mayfield cleared. The ehukka ended with Mayfield attacking. Mayfield SO, Christehurch 18. In the fifth ehukka Christehurch opened up the attaek, Roger Johnson making an opening which terminated in his scoring. Mayfield 30, Christehurch 19. Mayfield retaliated, and Johuson nearly scored, but Christchurch cleared. Livingstone then dribbled right up the field for MeCredie to score Mavfield 30, Christehurch 20. Another good attempt was then made bv Livingstone, who just missed. Mayfield had some anxious moments, but Johnson cleared. Christehurch still persisted and R. Johnson scored. Mayfield 30, Christehurch 21. In the final ehukka Johnson «P a nice attaching movement for Christchurch, but Mayfield cleared. A period of even plav followed, and just after the bell soilnded Mayfield "cored, but tho goal could not be allowed, and the game ended:

Orbcll (1). . . Pareora opened the attack, Orbell initiating the movement. Good up and down play followed and Christchureh scored within the first minute after a smart run by Hutton. Christchureh 1; Pareora 14. Grigg then swept down the field a moment later, and scored without opposition. Christchureh 2; Pareora 14. Brisk midfield play followed, till Gould scored with a smart shot. Christchureh 2; Pareora 14. Christchureh continued the attack, and Pareora was hard put to it in defence, Gould scoring from near the goal. Christchureh 4; Pareora 14. Christchureh again swept down the field, Stewart scoring from a melee near the goal. Christchureh 5; Pareora 14. In the second chukka Orbell put up a hot attack, but the movement was not completed. Christchureh retaliated, but Hutton'a shot missed. A moment later Grigg scored from the front of the goal. Christchureh 6; Pareora 14. B. Murray made a good opening with a nice shotj but D. Gould cleared. A fast exchange of shots followed in midfield till Hutton scored for ChristehuTch and the chukka ended, Christchureh 7; Pareora 14.

Christchurch continued to press, Gould making a good attack, but Orbell transferred play to Christchurch territory. He nearly scored, but the defence held. Orbell made another smart attack, but was again unsuccessful. Christchurch 8; Pareora 14. In the fourth chukka Gould made a nice opening, but Grigg shot wide. A strong shot by Gould struck the post. Christchurch was pressing very hard, but had three unsuccessful shots. Christchurch kept up the pressure and Gould scored from about 13 yards out. Christchurch 9; Pareora 14. Christchurch still attacked, and a fast rush by Gould resulted in Hutton scoring. Christchurch 10; Pareora 14. In the fifth chukka Christchurch opened the attack, and Gould scored from a melee in front of the posts. Christchurch 11; Pareora 14. Grigg gained a lot of ground for Christchurch from an opening made by Gould, but the movement was not completed. OrbeQ picked up nicely, B. Murray carried on, and Orbell gave another hit, and G. Murray scored. Christchurch 11; Pareora 15. A moment later concerted action by Grigg and Hutton resulted in Christchurch scoring. Christchurch 12; Pareora 15.
