LANDED ON BEACH.
AERO CLUB PILOT LOSES HIS WAY. rTHB PKESB *pecUl g«rrtct.] AUCKLAND, December 27. Losing his way in a thick bank of clouds soon, after seven o'clock this morning, Mr L. M. Squire, a member of the Auckland Aero Club, who was flying a Moth machine, landed on Takapuna beach. A message was sent to the aerodrome at Mangere, and another machine in charge of the chief instructor, Mr D. P. Allen, started for Takapuna. After hovering he returned to the aerodrome. By this time there was a big crowd of people on the beach, and the impression gathered was that the second pilot was unable to land. It was later explained that Mr Allen saw that assistance was not necessary, and therefore he flew back to Mangere. Another of the club members went to Takapuna. and flew the first machine, to the aerodrome. Officials of the Aero Club stated that the machine which Mr Squire was piloting did not have to make a forced landing. The weather at the time was too thick for the pilot to get his bearings, and therefore he* took the first chance of making a safe landing.
