GALA MISHAP.
SIDE-SHOW OVERTURNED. Yesterday's gale was an ill wind for the proprietors of one of the sideshows at the New Brighton Gala. A boxball alley, conducted by Messrs F.mett and Hulston. was blown from it« stand shortly after 2 p.m. The stall was in place against the west side of the stone wall along the beach and was struck by a sudden gust ot wind, which lifted it, with chocolate boxes, cash, and the full equipment, completed over the wall and on to the beach. A few children playing on the sand were trapped underneath the (iinvas, but were extricated without anv injtirv being caused An unexpected treasure hunt was provided for a number of boys, who enjoyed a scramble for florins, half-crowns, and boxes of chocolates which were scattered in the sand, not a few of which nivsteriouslv disappeared. The sand was raked about for some time afterwards by optimistic youths, m the ho»e of "discovering a few coins. The proprietors estimated their loss in monev and stock at about £lO. besides the loss of custom during the reconstruction of the stall. They are count ins tn eir Christmas as a partiruIsirlv unfortunate one. as they lost trade through a storm at InvercarpH and were involved in a collision on Christmas Eve, when their lorry was badly damaged.
