A NARROW ESCAPE.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, December 17. A house in Pine street, Mount Eden, was found on fire at 2 a.m. by a neighbour, who aroused the occupant, Mr O. Walker, from sleep. The centre of the house was burning fiercely. Walker fought his way down the smoke-filled passage in intense heat and escaped through the back door with his face and chest scorched. Walker was alone on the premises, which were wholly destroyed. The house and furniture were insured for £6OO.
