RUGBY. north v. south. (PaZSS 4SSOCHTIOS T*LEGBAJIS.) MASTERTON, September 18. The following Wairarapa players have been nominated for the North Island team: Backs—Cooka, Mill, Strmgfellow, Fuller. Worrall presiding. j A letter was received from the New Zea- j land League felicitating the South Island men on the advance made, as shown by the result of the game in which the South Island repre- j sentatives beat the North Island for the first ! time. The Press and public of Auckland had emphasised the superiority of the South Is- j land forwards, and it was indeed pleasing for i the Council to know that players of this calibre would be available for future New j Zealand teams. Mr H. Lipscombe, a member of the Council, had been so pleased at the exhibition and the result that he had decided to present a trophy for future competition between the Islands. The South Island would be the first holders, and it was requested that the Canterbury League should confer with the other southern Leagues as to where the trophy would be held until it was next played for. It was decided to confer with the other Leasnes as requested. The secretary of the West Coast Rugby Football League wrote stating:. that it bad been decided to suggest to the New Zealand Council that the next South Island v. North Island match should be held in Ohristchurch, and requested the Canterbury Leapie and the Otago League to eo-eperate with them in endeavouring to attain that object. A large number of enthusiasts would travel from Greynaouth for such a match—over 700 had gone to the Test against the English team at Christchurch last year—and the executive thought that such a fixture wonld be an undoubted financial success, and would do no end of good in stimulating the game in this Island, It Was resolved to support tha requestA request from the Addington Club for_ fe grant towards entertaining the visiting Chris* tian Brothers' team from Dunedin was referred to the Financial Committee. The medal for the best player In the schoolboys' team which recently returned from the West Coast was awarded to I. Coßtello. full-back In the Marist team. Mr A. Warwick, chairman of the West Coast Junior Management Committee, was welcomed to the meet!**, and stated that the conduct of the boya on their trip had been excellent, and that they had made . many friends on the Coast.
