NAVAL RESERVE DANCE.

No. 40 St. Asaph street, the headquarters of the Canterbury Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, was transferred into a fine representation of the upper deck of a warship on Saturday night, when the commanding

officer and- wardroom officers held their second dance. The function proved a great sue cess and was thoroughly enjoyed by a large attendance. Flags and bunting suspended from the * alters, the raised bridge, capstan, compass, the ship's bell and motto, "Fear God and honour the King" in brass lettering n a black scroll, the "bollards," and a bright and shining machinegun, formerly belonging to the torpedo destroyer Miranda, the bluejackets helping in various ways, and the officers standing at the "gangway" to welcome their numerous guests, all helped the illusion. Seymour's Orchestra, on the port side played popular dance music. The officers of the Reserve are Commander A. D. Boyle, Lieut.-Commander Kersley, Lieutenants Rhind, Dalton, F. Gunson, Carl Wilson, Geo. S. Tidswell, G. Andrews, P. Newman, Paymaster L J. Wilson, Surgeon-Lieut. Gould, SubLieut. P. D. Hall, and Chief Petty Officer Uttj. Hiss Boyle, Lieutenant Rhind, and Paymaster L J. Wilson formed the committee, whose arrangements .were excellently carried out. The proceeds will be devoted to the Deveron Fund.
