The Hastings River has broken its banks, and the flood waters have spread over a large area of low-lying lands All traffic has been suspended, the water being five feet over the bridges and main roads. Angus Kennedy and a companion were attempting to cross a flooded stream, when a branch •of a tree crashed on to them, killing Kennedy and his horse instantly. Large damage to crops is reported from the Maitland district.—Australian Press Association.
