FLYING MISHAPS.
MONOPLANE CRASHES AT CONEY ISLAND. (united press association—by electric TELESBAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received September Bth, 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 7. A heavy seven-passe er monoplane, which became lost in the fog and ran out of petrol, plunged down into the surf at Coney Island to-day when the beach was crowded with 500,000 persons, it being one of the hottest days this year. Two children were killed and several other persons were injured. There is a possibility that the monoplane swept several bathers under the water to their death. The pilot, who was alone in the machine, was only scratched. A scene of indescribable confusion resulted, and mounted police were necessary to restore order.—Australian Press Association. MISSING AEROPLANE FOUND. ALL THE OCCUPANTS DEAD. (Received September Bth, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 7. A Los Angeles message states that the wreckage of the missing Trans-Con-tinental air liner, City of San Francisco, was found to-day on Mount Taylor, New Mexico. All the occupants were dead.—Australian Press Association, United Service. [A recent report stated that the Trans-Continental Air Transport Company's aeroplane City of San Francisco was believed to have been struck by lightning. It carried five passengers and a crew of three.] TWO DEATHS IN AIR MAIL CRASH. (Received September Bth, 5.5 p.m.) DELHI, September 7. An Indian air mail liner, when flying to Karachi, crashed at Jask. The pilot and one passenger were killed. The liner was destroyed by fire. Captain Woodbridge, pilot of the air liner, had a distinguished record in the Air Force, and was credited with shooting down the German Ace, Richtofen, in 1917.—Australian Press Association .
