1 dirt track racing. 3£o tor-cycle dirt-track racing provided -» thsilling curtain-raiser to the Canterbury-Wel-lington representative Soccer match at English Park on Saturday afternoon. The event run off was a four-lap handicap, and a splendid exhibition of riding was given by the competitors. The winner, P. Sharman, off the scratch mark, showed admirable control and won brilliantly. The following Were the result*:— First heat : F. Sharman (Douglas) ser, 1: E. Pike (Norton), lOsec, 2; 8. Bussell Norton), 6hc, 3. Second heat: E. Harsh (Norton), scr, and W. Thomas (Triumph), 2 t«e, rode a "no race." Thomas fell twice in the first Up and withdrew. Marsh thus going in to the semi-final. Third heat: N. Gray (A.J.8.), lOsec, X. Tiase, 2min 4sec. Gray was the only one to finish, and three spills and some long "side slips" made this heat a very spectacular on*. First semi-final: Pike and Sharman deadheat 1. Time, Imin 48sec. Sharman, by fine cornering, passed Pike as they swept into the straight, but Pike came again, and they flashed over the line together. Second semi-final —Gray 1, K. Craig Douglas) scr, 2. Time, lmin 57see. Final. Sharman .. 1 Pike .. .. .. S Gray .. * Time, lain 44* m. Sharman rode •Bother sterling race, and caught his field in the straight of the third lap, eventually winning by 30 yards.
