RETURNS OF NUMBERS AND COST. [THB PBSSS Special Servic*.] WELLINGTON, September 2. Information as to the number of youths performing military service was laid on the table of the House of Re-
presentatives to-day, in response to motions for returns for the information of Mr W. J. Jordan (Lab., Manukau). It was stated that the number of males between the ages of 14 and 20 years, excluding Maoris, was as follows:—l 926, 90,030; 1927, 92,407; 1928, 94,023. Those actually performing Territorial or Cadet service in those years are as follows:—l 926, 50,808; 1927, 56,642; 1928, 55,673. A return moved for by Mr T. W. McDonald (U., Wairarapa) showed that the number of Cadets connected with schools was 14,911, and the number not connected with schools 13,846. The estimated cost of training, clothing, arms, and equipment of Cadets and Territorials was £40,954.
