MT. HUTT ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Mt. Hutt Road Board met on Monday. Present: Messrs F. W. Ruddenklau (chairman), W. W. Goodwin, D. Hampton, and R. J. S. Wilson. An apology for absence was received from Mr A. F. Marr. The clerk reported that during the past month the teams were engaged on the Pole Line road, but considerable delay had been entailed through wet weather. The recent floods had been responsible for some damage to various roads, and on the Waimarama road a bridge had been washed away. This had now been replaced and approaches made up temporarily. The grader was now at work in Lauriston township, where the road had been badly cut up. In response to numerous requests for a continuous service he had interviewed all business firms in the township, and there was an overwhelming majority against the proposal. Bates amounting to £203 9s Id had been collected for the present year.

Messrs J McD. Anderson and ffm. Morgan waited on the Board as a deputation in reference to the flooding of ' Morgan street by storm water. The deputation drew attention to the damage done by flood water, and the chairman stated that he would make an inspection in company with the clerk. The Ashburton County Council wrote advising that it was prepared to supply pipes for the main water-race in Alford Forest road subject to the Board doing the work. In view of the fact that the road is now a secondary highway, it was decided to await the reply to the Council's application for the work to be subsidised by the Main Highways Board. The Methven and Lauriston sub-branches of the Plunket Society forwarded applications for grants. It was decided to make • grant of £3 to Methven and £2 to Lauriston.

The National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., was granted permission to install ft bowser in front of its premises. Applications to plough road frontages were granted subject to the usual conditions. Sitting as Methven Domain Board, advice was received from the County Council that a grant of £22 10s had been made to the funds. The clerk reported that the fencing of the belt of ornamental trees had been completed. Setting as the Cemetery Board, advcie was received from the county clerk that • grant of £22 10b had been made to the funds. It was decided to allot a portion of the grant towards further improvements in the cemetery. The clerk reported that all the firewood cut had been disposed of. Two tenders were received for further felling and cutting of trees, but both were declined. Sitting as the Highbank Domain Board, ad vice was received from the County Council that a grant of £22 10s had been made to the funds. An application from E. J. Black well to lease the cemetery reserve was left in the hands of Messrs Marr and Wilson to report at next meeting.
