ELLESMERE. TTja monthly meeting of the Ellesmere County Council was held at Leeston on Monday, when there were present: Crs. John Heslop (chairman), A. Quigley, A. Anderson, J. P. McEvedy, John Nixon, and R. T. McMillan. The following property transfers were notified; —Estate G. P. Simpson to Frances I. Simpßon, 4 acres; Alexander Bros, to W. MoIlraith, 50 acres; same to H. Winchester, 20 acre*; estate W. Broughton to Canterbury Seed Company, 806 acres, 411 acres, 676 acres, and 85 acres; M. T. McEvedy to J. McCrory, 100 acres; A. J. Young to M. I». Young, 255 acres. The Commissioner of Crown Lands Informed the Council that Mr Hansen, a Homebrook settler, had been given notice to clean a drain through his land, which was the subject of a request made to the Council by Mr F. L. Bailey. He asked if the Council would allow its engineer to take the levels to eide definitely which way the fall lay. It was agreed to accede to the request. Nixon suggested that the time was ready to proceed with tree piant-ng and other i work to improve the appearance of the shingle , pit at the Show Ground entrance. The Cottpeil decided to mtk* an inspection of the reserve with a view to deciding what should be done in the way of levelling and planting. . . Cr. McMillan said that the Elle'mera A. and P. Association desired to purchase a piece of land at the Show Ground entrance, of which it had a lease for 21 years at a nominal rental. Its object was to erect memorial gates at the entrance. It #rma agreed that Cr. McMillan and the engineer should interview the Commissioner of Crown Lands to ascertain whether the Council was entitled to sell the land.
