CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE.

Firm but inactive conditions prevailed on call yesterday. Bidding for most classes of stocks was spiritless. The recorded turnover was below normal and exclusive of vestibule business included: — 10 Bank of Australasia. 125 Kaiapoi Woollen, 7s paid. 440 Staples Brewery. 200 Timaru Brewery, 5s paid. 400 Mt. Lvell. 200 Bartholomew Timber. 200 Winding Creek, 6d paid. Government issues were firm at recent rates. Bank of Australasia shares weakened to £.14 10s, market closing £l4 8s 6d buyers, £l4 12s sellers. National Bank of New Zealand were wanted at £6 19s, yesterday's business figure, sellers at £6 19s 6d. New Zealand Insurance shares were marked ex dividend of lid per share, buyers 47s 4d, no sellers. Goldsbrough, Morts were firmer with buyers at 475, sellers at 47s 4d. Kaiapoi Woollen 7s paid shares realised 5s Id, closing quotations 5s buyers, 5s 3d sellers. Staples Brewery shares had dealings at 54s 3d, 54s 4d, and 54s 6d, buyers staying in at 54s 4d, sellers at 54s 9d. Timaru Brewery 5s paid shares remained at 8s sd, sellers and business, buyers at 8s 4d. Ward's Brewery shares, ex distribution of 5s per share, were quoted 28s buyers, 33s sellers. Mt. Lyells were active with dealings at 435. Bartholomew Timber shares realised 20s 7id. Winding Creek 6d paid shares were released at 2s, closing quotations Id on either side. Bank of New Zealand hardened to 61s 8d and 61s 9d.
