ALLOCATION OF POINTS. RECOMMENDATIONS BY MAJOR ASSOCIATIONS. Divergent opinions are expressed by the four major cricket associations on the matter of the scoring of points for Plunket Shield matches. All four replies to the New Zealand Cricket Council's request for recommendations on tht matter are now to hand, and were received at the meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council last evening. In addition, two associations have forwarded other resolutions having a bearing on the conduct of Shield matches. The recommendations will be dealt with by the annual conference of delegates to the Council to be held in November. The Management Committee of the Council will also consider the question and place their recommendations before the conference. The Auckland Association made the following recommendation: — Outright win, 8. Outright loss, 0. Win on first innings, 4. Loss on first innings, 2. Tie, 4 each. No result after aix houra' play, 3 each. The Wellingtoi Association recommended as follows: That the Plunket Shield be held each season by the team gaining the greatest percentage of points in matches plhyed. Outright win, 8. Win on first innings, 5. I,oss on first innings, 3. Tie on first .nnings, 4 each. Tie on match, 4 each. No result after six houra' play, 4 each. The percentage to be reckoned on the percentage of points obtained to points obtainable, provided that in the event of equality the matter be decided on averages as follows:—The total runs scored by each team in each match to I) add«d together and the grand total divided by the total number of wickets loat, thus giving the average runs per wicke* scored by a team; then to be ascertained the total runs scored against each team and to be divided by the number of wickets lost by their opponents in scoring the runs, thus giving the average per wicket against each team; then to be subtracted the lower average from the higher, the ;eam with the highest net average per wicket to be declared the winner. Furth«r resolutions orovided that home and away mntchee be played each season; that the New Zealand Council appoint all umpires for Plunket Shield games; that irofessionals who are not permanent residents be permitted to play. Tho Canterbury Association recommended the following points system: — Outright win, 8, Win on first innings, 4. Tie on first innings, 4 each. Tie on match, 4 each. Loss ou first innings, 2. No result after six hours' play, 3 each. Tho Otago Association recommended that points be allocated as follows: Outright win, 5 Win on first innings, 3. First innings not completed, 2 each. Loss on first innings, 1. It was also recommended that when an innings is declared tho innings should be considered as completed and • should be recognised as a loss of ten wickets.
