AUSTRALIAN SOLDIER SETTLEMENTS.
POLITICAL INTERFERENCE CONDEMNED. (CHITZD PBESB ASSOCIATION —BY KLSCTBIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received August sth, 7.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 6. Mr Justice Pike has completed an enquiry into soldier settlements on behalf of the Commonwealth Government. He severely criticises the State Governments for buying land unsuitable for soldier settlements, with the result that the majority of soldiers have not the slightest chance of making a success. Mr Justice Pike's report also condemns' the political interference associated with the administration of soldiers' holdings. The Commonwealth Government has loaned to date £35,000,000 for soldier settlements. —Australian Press Association.
