EMPIRE'S GIFT UNVEILED.

The whole Empire was represented at Arras (Mr John Studholme representing New Zealand), when the Secretary for War, Mi Tom Shaw, formally presented a set of six stained class windows for the Memorial Chapel at the French National Cemetery, which is em-ted on a spur facing vimy Ridtce. on behalf ot all the Governments and peoples of the Empire Thousands of French people were pres'""The Chapel stands in the midst of 30 000 graves The windows commemorate tfct Empire's dead who fought on the same ground as their French comrades. It is intended as a tribute ot gratitude for French assistance in providing for Imperial war graves by mmirous grinti of lands for ceme* teries. —Australian Press Association.
TTh« windows were presented by the liaperial War Graves Commission on behalf of *ll the Governments and peoples of the Empire. They consist of six Hghta. In one set the central figure is that of St. George, with allegorical figure* on either side representing Victory Below U aeen part of the field of battle, with wooden crosses marking tht graves of the dead. In the other se t St. Joan forma the central figure, with Memory and Praise on either side. Th«. Arms of St. Joan are at the base of the window in which her figure appears, while the Koyal Arms and those of the Dominions of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Newfoundland, and India are grouped under the figures in the other windows. They were designed by Mr H. A. Payne.]
