SLAUGHTERING ACT.
COUNCIL'S REQUEST REFUSED. The Abattoir Committee reported to the City Council last evening that it had recently communicated with the Minister for Agriculture urging upon him the necessity for amending the Slaughtering and Inspection Act in order to provide that all stock for human consumption within the Christchurch abattoir district should be slaughtered at the City abattoir. A reply had now been received from the Minister intimating that owing to the far-reaching nature of the proposal, he could not see his way to agree to the amendment of the Act in the direction desired. The clause was adopted.
