The matches were played at the Technical College ground. Senior. The strength of Christchurch's centres was apparent from the beginning, the ball being kept in their goal third, despite the inaccuracy of Christchurch goal-shooting in the earlier part of the game. After seven ineffective attempts at goal, Christchurch scored its first point. Ashburton put up a strong defence, but was unable to force the ball past the Christchurch centre, where V. Flood was, as usual, a tower of strength. E. Alexander, of Ashburton, was well chosen for her position of jumping centre. The play throughout the first half was decidedly in favour of Christchurch, the score at half-time being 8-0. In the second half Ashburton centre players presented a very much stronger, attack, the ball being kept in the Ashburton end of the field, despite the excellent play of the Christchurch defence. The Ashburton goalthrowers met with much hard luck, the ball four or five times striking the ring but bouncing out. In the Christchurch end of the field, Nora Mahoney maintained her reputation, throwing with judgment. This player was responsible for nine of the seventeen scored by Christchurch. In the latter half of the game she was considerably hampered by her partner, whose eagerness resulted in a great deal of over-guarding. Owing to illness. Ashburton were unable to field their full strength. Although the team showed excellent material, the combination was not as strong as Ashburton would have wished. For Ashburton, T. Harper and M. Alanxeder were prominent for their good play. Junior. To an onlooker, the play of the junior team was more swift and scientific than that of the senior teams, giving evidence of efficient coaching. The passing was speedy and with less fumbling than in the senior match. Goal-throwers on each side were steady and accurate. In the second half the goal-throw-' ing on both sides was_ good, and Ashburton maintained equality until the last five minutes, when Christchurch drew ahead, finishing with 17 to 10. For Ashburton, E. Donaldson. M. Wells, and M. Blight distinguished themselves. Christchurch's outstanding players were: Centre. Telfa and Loi s Forscutt; defence, Gwen Evans, who played a fine game. Ngaire Brewer, who scored the majority of the goals for Christchurch. is obviously weak in passing tactics, thoueh her accuracy in scoring was Christchurch's salvation. Of Christchurch's seventeen goals Miss Brewer was rpsT>ons : ble for fourteen. Th®* referees were Miss Knox and Mr "R. J. Thompson, Ashburton. and Mr F Lovett, Christchurch. After the matches the visitors we-e entertained to afternoon tea at the Technical College. j
