[Hobbs, who was prominent in the "Mr A" case, sued the Liverpool "Evening Express" in connexion with a sketch of his life, imputing dishonesty. Plaintiff was awarded one farthing damages and Lord Chief Justice Hewart gave judgment for defendants, as the jury had twice indicated that defendants should receive the verdict if the law allowed. When, the case against the "Nottingham Journal" was called on ')eceiuber 7th last, Mr A. M. Sullivan, First Ser-geant-at-law, for plaintiff, applied for an adjournment on the ground that the publication of previous proceedings might leave a hostile opinion in the jurors' minds. Lord Hexvart refused, and likewise a ltquest for fcavo to appeal, whereupon Mr Sullivan and Hobbs left the Court. Hobbs later applied to the Appeal Court,* when Lord Justice Scrutten granted an adjournment.]
