LATE MR T. O'CONNELL.

THE FUNERAL. The bells of the Catholic Cathedral tolled yesterday morning as the body of the. late Mr Thomas O'Gonnell was carried into the Cathedral for Solemn Requiem Mass. In the presence of a representative gathering the Mass was celebrated bv his son, the Kev. Father John O'Connell, S.M. The Kev. Father McMonagle was deacon of the Mass, and the Rev. Father J. Cullen, S.M., was sub-deacon. The Kev. Dr. Kennedy was Master of Ceremonies. His Lordship Bishop Brodie, attended by the Rev. Dr. Morkane and the Very Kev. Dean Holley, presided in the Sanctuary. The beantiftil Gregorian music of the Mass was sung by a choir of priests. At the end of the Mass his Lordship pf.id a, tribute to one whe was a pioneer of the parish. Prefacing his remarks by the last spoken words of Mr O'Connell, "Blessed be God, blessed be His Holy Name,"' his Lordship first spoke of Mr O'Conncll's service to the Church, mentioning in particular his work in supervising the erection of Mt. Magdaln, Convent of the Mission, and Nazareth House, and then linked his name with that of Bishop Grimes as one of the founders of t' e noble edifice in which his mortal remains rested at that moment. In offering his sympathy to the sorrowing widow, his Lordship reminded all that it was "a holy and a wholesome thouzht to pray for the dead,"' and asked all to pray for the happy repose of the soul of one of the greatest and noblest of Catholics. His Lordship then gave the absolution, and the huge congregation stood as a m..rk of respect, as the strains of the ''Dead March'' filled the Cathedral.
