RICCARTON NOTES.
Methodist Church. The quarterly meeting of the Biccarton Methodist Circuit was held on Tuesday, the Rev. J. P. Jack presiding. The report stated that all departments were in a healthy condition, and that the increase in the congregations was evidence of Mr Jack's popularity in the Circuit. Permission was given for the Clarence street Church to hold a sale of work for the benefit of the new Sunday SchooL Proets Cause Trouble. Much inconvenience is being caused by burst pipes, and frozen taps, due to the heavy frosts. In many cases the usual supply of water is not obtainable before mid-day. Bt. Junes' Guilds. The combined guilds of St. James' Church held their annual complimentary social in the Town Hall, Mr J. Peters acting as M.C. The ladies provided an excellent supper, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. New Buildings. The Borough will shortly see a revival in the building trade, as a start will soon be made with the erection of a Catholic Church in Puriri street. It is also rumoured that another block of shops ia to be built adjacent to Clarence street, while plans are in hand for a number of bungalows. Personal. Mr H. Odell, having recovered from his illness, is returning from Hanmer early next week. Mr D. M. Eekhoff, of Division street, well-known in cricket circles, has been transferred to the Public Trust Office in Kelson, and leaves this week. Earthquake Belief Fundi. The Biecarton Citizens' Association proposes holding a monster social shortly, in aid of the Earthquake Belief Fund.
