AUCKLAND GAMING RAIDS. [THE PEE S3 Special Service.] AUCKLAND, July 11. As the result of a visit paid by De-tective-Sergeant McHugb to a shop in Symonds street, rtank Louis Jenner, aged 41, was arrested on a charge of using his premises as a common gaming house. At the Magistrate's Court it was stated that Jenner was only in a small way of business in the betting line. He took £29 worth of bets yesterday. Nothing previously was known against him. A fine of £25 was imposed. As the result of other police raids Ada McNaughton aged 51, tobacconist, Khyber Pass road, and Ellen Matthew, aged 42 fishmonger, Mount Eden road, were charged with carrying on the business of bookmaking, while charges of being unlawfully on E remises used as a common gaming ouse were preferred against their husbands, John McNaughton and Charles James Matthew. The charges against the two men were withdrawn bv the police, while the two women pleaded guilty. The police said Mrs McNaughton had been doing silver betting and Mrs Ma+thew was on the same level, but had heen doing more business Betting materia] seiaed in the shops was produced. "Accused know the risk they were taking," said the Magistrate. He imposed fines of £23 each, default being fixed at two months' imprisonment.
