RADIO AND CABLE SERVICES.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE SET UP. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TET.EGaAJC.) WELLINGTON, July 11*. The Prime Minister announces that, in accordance with the recommendations of the Imperial Wireless and Cable Conference in London last year, it has been decided to set up a Committee in an advisory capacity in regard to telegraphic communications. This body, which will be styled the Imperial Communications Advisory Committee, is concerned with the policy of the new Imperial and International Communications Company, and in particular is charged with responsibility in regard to the institution of new services, the discontinuance of existing services, alterations in rates, and the distribution of traffic between the alternative routes. One of the main features of the plan proposed by the conference is the fixing of a standard net revenue which should be available for the purposes of the Communication Company. Fifty per cent, of all the net revenue in excess of this standard is to be devoted to the reduction of rates or such other purposes as the Committee may approve. The following appointments to the Committee have been made in Great Britain: —Northern Ireland, Colonef Sir Courtauld Thomson; Canada, Sir Caninbell Stuart ; Australia. Mr Give L. Baillieu; New Zealand, Sir James Parr; South Africa, Lieut.-Colonel E. A. tSturman; Irish Free State, Mr T. J. Kiernan; Tndia, Sir Atul Chatterjee; Colonies and Protectorates, Sir Edward Dawson. Sir James Parr'? appointment is a temporary one, and tlie announcement j of a permanent ar>nointment will be made within the nest few days.
