GORED BY BULL.

FARMER DIES FROM INJURIES. [THE ?BZBS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, July 10. Gored over 25 times by an infuriated bull on his farm at Helensville, John Rimmer, aged 57, a well-known resident, died from his injuries an hour after being admitted to the Auckland Hospital to-night. Caught by the animal in the centre of a twenty-acre paddock, Rimmer was tossed time after time before neighbours came to his assistance. The beast, which is to be destroyed, is a purebred. Shorthorn weighing over half a ton, and its horns spread for nearly three feet. The helpless spectators saw Rimmer tossed in the air by the beast, and caught again on its horns several times. The bull was finally blinded by a shot from a shotgun. Rimmer had been away from Helensville for some days. On returning this afternoon he went to inspect the stock on his farm about two miles from Helensville. As he walked through a paddock alone the bull followed him for some distance. He waved it away several times. Suddenly the animal became infuriated, and rushed Rimmer. He evaded the first onslaught, but was then knocked down and trampled upon. The bull returned to the attack again and again. It threw Rimmer in the air, goring him with its great horns, ripping his clothes, and tearing his flesh. Neighbours came to his assistance. Rushing to his tool shed, Mr Skelton secured a pitchfork. As he ran to the scene, he saw the bull toss Rimmer several more times. If Rimmer feU to the ground the bull would attack him furiously, trampling him, and then using its horns again. Skelton attracted the bull's attention to himself, but the bull refused to leave the huddled heap on the grass, and continued to gore its victim. James Osborne, another neighbour, secured a shot-gun, and rushed up just as the bull was rushing Skelton. He fired a shot which blinded the beast, and the neighbours were then able to get Rimmer away.
