A surplus of £580,000 on the Consolidated Revenue Fund was disclosed in the financial statement issued by the Assistant-State Treasurer, Mr Bertram Stevens. Taxation relief is promised. The railways showed a deficit of £1,200,000, but the receipts exceeded last year's figures by £300,200. The increased powers given to the Tax Commissioner resulted in £250,000 extra being collected from those who attempted to evade taxes. A reduction of harbour dues is liktily, as the Harbour Trust showed a surplus of £115,000 for the year.—Australian Press Association.
