AUCKLAND UNITARIAN CHURCH.
JOINT PASTORS ARRIVE. [THE PEE S3 Special Service.] AUCKLAND, July 9. Looking forward t their work in a new country the Bev. W. A. Constable and his wife, the Bev. Wilna Constable, who have been appointed joint pastors of the Auckland Unitarian Church, arrived from Sydney by the Ulimaroa. They were met on the wharf by the members of the church, who gave them a most cordial reception. Mr and Mrs Constable both come from Warwick. Mis Constable was a minister of the Unitarian Church there for seven and a half years, before she and her husband received the Auckland appointment. This was the longest single pastorate ever held by a woman in England. For nine years Mr Constable was County Staff Lecturer in Literature to the Warwickshire County Council, a position which was tantamount to university extension work. Before going to Warwick, Mr and Mrs Constable, who are both graduates of Edinburgh University, were joint pastors of the Congregational Church, Sheffield. Mrs Constable said she was not the least frightened of being the only woman minister in Auckland; she thought that women could exercise a humanising influence on the Church, and in these days, when women were entering into practically every branch of public life it was only right that some of them should turn to Church work. Many women were doing valuable work for the Churches of all denominations in England.
