KAIAPOI PROTEST.

TWO DECISIONS DISPUTED. REFEREE COMPLAINS OF TEAM'S CONDUCT. Complaints regarding the conduct of the Kaiapoi senior B team were made by a referee to the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening, and the ciub entered a protest against two oi the referee's decisions. Mr L. Bardie, reieree in the ii-aiapoi v. Varsity senior B match, played at Kaiapoi on duly 6th, wrote stating that he had occasion to caution a Kaiapoi player for repeated questioning of decisions and rough play. The player ma<le himself a source of annoyance during the greater part of the game. Mr Hardie also stated that while proceeding to the pavilion after the game he was subjected to bad language and insuiting remarks from player mentioned and other members of the Kaiapoi team. It was decided to refer the fatter part of the letter to the Kaiapoi Club, and to post the name of the player mentioned to the cautions list. Mr W. Mealings, secretary of the Kaiapoi Club, wrote appealing against two decisions by Mr Hardie in the match mentioned The grounds of appeal were as follows: (1) A free kick was awarded to "Varsity. They placed the ball for a kick at goal. The ball missed the goal. Another kick was immediately awarded from the same place. This time 'Varsity goaled. WheE asked why 'Varsity were allowed the second attempt, the referee stated that he gave his decision because a Kaiapoi player spoke; (2) the Kaiaooi team was attacking and pressing "Varsity hard on the goal line. A 'Varsity player kicked the ball over the line and a Kaiapoi player fell on it to score a try. The score wa3 not allowed, the referee ordering a scrum out. Thai two decisions were recarded by the Kaiapoi players as unfair. The match was won and lost on either of these decisions. It was hoped that the matter would receive full and just consideration. Mr Wilson: It's a question of fact, and we can't do ar.ything. A member: Was he within his rights in giving another kick? Mr Wilson: Ye*. Players must stand with their arms at their sides and must be absc- ■ lntely neutral when a kicit is taken The second question might be one of law, though. The letter was referred to the referee for his explanation on this point.
