MUNICIPAL LINKS. PROPOSAL BEFORE COUNCIL. Tfao City Council last night had before it a report from the Reserves Committee concerning a proposal to establish municipal goli licks. The Reserves Committee reported:—The committee bess to report that it has Riven further consideration to the matter o£ municipal golf links, and cannot mak9 any recommendation therein. While it is cf opinioo that the Council has land available which would be suitable for golf links, tho committee considers that as there are six golf clubs in close proximity to the City, and that it is proposed to establish public golf links at New Brighton, the requirements of the public in this direction are amply provided for. Or. P. W. Sharps eaid that the request was brought' under the notice of the committee by a number o£ gentlemen, members of certain clubs, who thought there was room for such links. The committee was indebted to Mr Harold Lishtband and others for thd assistance they had jjiven in the matter. Cr. M. E. Lyons expressed disappointment with the report, and trusted that further consideration would bo given, to the matter.

The Mayor (Mr .T. K. Archer) also expressed disappointment, and thought it not the right thing that the City should be dependent on the New Brighton Borough Council for municipal links. He asked the chairman of the committee to take the clause back. "I should be delighted to do so. eaid Cr. Sharpe, "who went on to state that there were certain difficulties involved in the proposal. The committee had had the Bottlo Lake property in view, which was suitable for the purpose provided sufficient money was spent ou it. The sum of £IOOO would bo required to put the ground in working order. While the Wellington municipal golf links used to make a profit, since the ground was extended a loss was being mad®. Cr. H. T. J. Tbaekev moved that the report be referred back to the committee, with a recommendation that it bring down a concreto proposal. Tho Mayor: That is involved in Or. Sharpe's undertaking. AMURI V.
