TROTTING CLUB'S SUBDIVISION.
NO MORE LAND FOR SPORTS GROUND. The Metropolitan Trotting Club has refused to sell the Riccarton Borough Council the additional land in its subdivision next to the area set aside by law for a recreation area, but will sell another piece. The Riccarton Borough Council, at last night'a meeting, declined to buy this and no additional property will be purchased there this year. The club advised that it was not prepared to sell any land adjoining the reserve set aside as shown on the plan of Shand's block. It would consent to substitute an equal area between George street and Blenheim road through which Elizabeth and Phillip streets run to Wainui street, on condition that the Council purchase the remainder of the block of about 5* acres, at the rate of £SOO per acre In the event of Eli.abeth and Phillip streets being closed, and as no expense would be incurred out of the loan raised for the purpose, the club stipulated that out of the money saved from the nonformation of these streets, the Council should divert same to the formation of a road through the reserve threequarters of a chain wide in continuation of Euston street. According to the report of the Finance Committee, no allowance will be made for a poll of ratepayers in connexion with the purchase of property in the south-west area.
