PAPANUI AMATEUR CLUB. A twenty-five mile road raca was held on Saturday afternoon by the Papanui Amateur Sports Club. The roads wore in good order and fast times were made. The race was decided round the block bounded by Biehop'B, Sawyer's Arms, Waimak, and Harawood roads, having to be traversed five times. Thirty-one riders faced the •tarter, but owing to a number of spills only a Lttlo ovar half of them completed the journey. T O'Brien and A. Mackio (scr) wore Conceding omin to the limit men and gained very little ground during the first lap. In the socor.d lap W. F. Wilcockson Uimin) was called off, and at this stags T. O Brian and A. Mackie dropped out. The winaei, T Egan (7min), crossed the line about 20 yards ahead of R. Dunlop, with S. Weir 10 yards behind. J. C. Grose, issued a warning that any rider dropping back and making the pace for those behind him would be called off. Interviewed afterwards, Mr Grose said that this practice has been going on for some time, the riders, after making the pace for a while, dropping out of the race. If they cannot ke©p up with riders of their own class, there appears to be something wrong when they can make the pace for faster riders. The committee are determined to put a atop to the practice, and will give the. matter further consideration at the meeting on Tuesday night.

MAIREHAU CLUB. A thirty-milo road race waa held at Mairehau on Saturday afternoon.' J. W. Jordan, A. C. Bitchie, L. W. Hill, and S. A. Jordan ; were on scratch, and the limit mark was !at 9 minutes. Ritchie retired at thirteen I miles, after having made up on the leaders I considerably. At halfway Prestidge and Turner were in front, followed closely by Parsonfl, Gardiner, and Bearman. The scratch riders were three minutes behind at this stage. Sowden and Hazeldine finished nine seconds in front of Hill. Results: C. J. Sowden (3Jmin), time lhr 21min 16seo . - •. •• 1 G. "W.
