MOTOR INSURANCE.

Mr W. R. Glazebrook, chairman of the Royal Insurance Co., Ltd., in addressing shareholders in London recently, said conditions in the motor department of the company continue difficalt and require constant vigilance. The rapid world-wide increase in the number of motor vehicles on the road continues unabated, and statistics show that for some years past the ratio of the number of accidents to every 100 vehicles insured has steadily increased. The tendency of modern motor-car design is to provide higher speeds, the continuous improvement of road construct,on creates increased traffic, and these suggest that no diminution of accident frequency should be looked for in the immediate future. Competitive conditions render it difficult to ensure that the rates of premium charged are maintained et a level corresponding to the less favourable accident experience. The severe frosts in Great Britain caused a large influx of claims, amounting in tne aggregate to a considerable figure.
