HAURAKI MINES CONSOLIDATED. The manager reports as follows: —In the stopes above the 400 ft level on the Stockwood reef, as per telegram, 10lb of fairly good specimen stone was got from the main portion of the reef in the stope over the winze cbamber. This is north of the junction with the Union Beach Cross reef and on the opposite side to where the gold was got in the level. The reef at this point is about 6in in width; nice gold has been left showing in the back of the stope. The following stope will not reach this point until next week The seaward face has been extended Bft for the week, with one shift, leaving about 22ft to reach the estimated position of the junction with the Green Harp reef; the country rock and the reef are favourable for gold. The battery is running on quartz from all working faces. A fair amount of amalgam is coming from the plates, and with a few lots of specimen 6tone like the last a good return can be assured. NEW ZEALANDER'S SUCCESS. The city of Sheffield is to have the newest and most up-to-date abattoir in the United Kingdom, and the contract for its erection has been given Mr Hal Williams, a Christ's College (Christchurch, New Zealand) man, who is the head of a successful business for the supply of refrigerating machinery, etc. It will be recalled that he was responsible for the highly successful refrigerating display at Wemblev. He is a son of Mr J. W. Williams. Bay of Islands, an M.I. Mech. E., M.1.E.E., and has his head office in Holbora. GENERAL MOTORS AND AVIATION. NEW YORK, May 27.
