TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETS.

A meeting of the Board o£ Governors of the Christchurch Technical College was held last evening, and was attended by Messrs McGregor Wright (chairman), W. H. Winsor, T. W. West, G. T. Thurston, A. H. Scales, J. W. Roberts, G. A. Pascoe, J. W. Graham, W. R. Gahagan, E. H. Andrews, B. Seth Smith, Mrs H. I. Ball, and the principal, Dr. E. Hansen. It was reported that the staff and children of the school had raised £25 towards the earthquake relief fund,-and a vote of appreciation was passed. The Town .Clerk wrote stating that the By-laws Committee had given permission for the election of a "drive quietly" sign near the extreme west of the college building in Moorhouse avenue. The Director of Education wrote in connexion with suggested improvements in the draft plan for the new Technical Shool, advising that the Public Works Department ' was preparing amended sketch plans, embodying alterations asked for by the Board. On completion the sketch plans would be forwarded for the Board's consideration. It was decided to ask that the plans should be submitted as soon as possible. The general manager of the Municipal Electricity Department advised that the Electricity Committee had decided to provide and install at the college, wihottt charge, a modern electric range for the home science department. The New Board. The secretary of the Canterbury Education Board advised that August had been fixed for the election of members of the College Board. The retiring members are Messrs >V. Jones (parents of day school pupils), G. A. Pascoe (employers' associations), J. W. Roberts (employees' associations), T. W. West (School Committees), W. H. Wmsor (Education Board), and McGregor Wright (local bodies). ZAdies' Advisory Committee. The Ladies' Advisory Committee reported : , , That in vie*' of the great amount of work involved in organising and inspecting the home science branch of primary, secondary, and technical education, the Education Department should be urged to appoint another inspector as an assistant to Miss Dyer. That as there is apparently a shortage of good teachers of practical home science subjects. the Education Department should be urged to hold this year, if possible, the proposed examinations for diplomas for the teaching of cookery and housewifery and for needlecraft respectively. The report was adopted.
