MELANESIAN MISSION.
APPEAL IN THE CHURCHES. In accordance with the practice in past years, the offertories in most of the Anglican Churches throughout the diocese yesterday, Whit-fc..,ulay, were devcted to the Melanesian Alission. In spite of the temporary closing oi two mission stations, and other savings effected, the present income is far from adequate to meet the requirements of the work, and the recent accident to the steamer Southern Cross will involve the mission in further expense. . With the establishment of a hospital and the commencement of work in the Northern Solomons, the work is full <» promise, and if the mission is its way a further increase of £~£uw •"""ally will be required.
