MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ~. Mr J. O. Jameson presided over a committee meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held last evening. The inspector reported that he had visited horee and poultry saleyards both in the City and Kangiora, also stock sales at Kaugiora, Tinwald, .Leeston, and Addington. He had inspected cattle, sheep, end pigs at the City Abattoir, pigs at Ureen's La con Factory, Addington, also horses harnesßed to vehicles at fruit and fish markets. Other places visited were as follows:—Sumner, Hew Brighton, Lyttelton, Marshland, Belfast, Kaiapoi, Amberley, Scargill, Rolleston, Burnham, iSelwyn, Swannanoa, West Eyreton, Waipara, Tlaxfcon, Styx, Balcairn, Prebbleton, Hornby, Middleton, Sockbum, Halswell, Tai Tapu, end Lincoln. Alio he had attended race meetings at Cheviot and Ashburton. The following cautions were issued: — Neglecting horse while injured: 1, Marshland. Neglecting to provide proper shelter and sufficient food to a horse: 1, Fendaltcn. Neglecting to supply two horses with proper and sufficient food: 1, Ashley. Working in harness lame horses: 1. Addington; 1, New Brighton; 1, Ashburton. Working in harness old and decrepit horses: 1, New Brighton; 1, City; 1, Kangiora. Neglecting to supply water and shelter to a dog: 1, Marshland. Housing fowls in small dirty case: 1, City. Accounts to the amount of £46 7b 5d were passed for payment. It was decided to instruct the inspector to watch fowls, »nd to see that no carelessness takes place, such as leaving them in a couple of inches of mud daring the winter. It was decided to draw the attention of the Ashburton Trotting Club to the dip in their track. It was stated that this dip was very dangerons, although only to hobbled horses.
It was decided to hold the next three monthly meetings of the SocUity at 4.15 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
