RICCARTON RATES.
A GOOD RESPONSE. On the Saturday before the Municipal elections, Mr W. Machin, addressing a meeting held by candidates of the Citizens' Association, appealed to Hiccarton ratepayers .to pay their rates and help to reduce the overdraft. The response has been a good one, but there is still the large sum of £7072 outstanding, and after next Tuesday a levy of 10 per cent, will be added to all rates which are then unpaid. The total levy was £18,600, and the amount received up to yesterday was £11,525. Last Thursday, the day following the election, brought the greatest total in receipts, the amount being £620.
