School Committee. The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Main School Committee was held on Friday evening, Messrs W. G. Scott (chairman), G. Herring, R. Barrowman, R. J. Williams, A. J. Fairmaid, J. Tennent, and H. Herring (secretary) being present. Complaints were received from parents regarding the excessive amount of homework given the children and that the introduction of the new syllabus debarred children from spending sufficient time on the fundamental subjects. The chairman stated that the matter iad been adjusted satisfactorily. Beefton Jockey Club. At a meeting of the Reefton Jockey Club err Friday, a letter was received from J. Jarden asking the Club to review the punishment of six months' disqualification, meted out to him over the running of the Progress Trot at the Club's recent Meeting. It was resolved to> inform Jarden that the matter was rcw out of the Club's hands, and that the papers in connexion with it had gone forward to the New Zealand Tri.tt.ng Association, and also to suggest *hat he write direct to the Association on the matter. Timber Trespass. A*, a sitting of the Reefton Magistrate's Court, before Mr Meldrum, S.M., on Friday, in the claim by the Conservator of State Forests, against J. W. <j. Ward, Mr H. G. Brodie appeared for plainliff and Mr Patterson for defendant. Mr Brodie asked that the case be reopened, as he had fresh evidence tc substantiate his further statement. Mr Patterson opposed the application, declaring there was no justification for i hat action. The hearing was continued, after which Mr Meldrum said that the timber was removed by the defendant on March 2nd, he wrote to the Department regarding the valuation of tbt timber removed, and he went on cutting without permission. Defendant would be convicted and fined £2O with teats £9 13s, and ordered to pay £l5O, the cost of the timber. Grey Hospital Board. The recount of the voting papers in connexion with the election of the Greymouth Borough representatives on the Grey Hospital Board, has resulted in a reversal of the positions of the two cm.didatea who were in doubt, and Mr E. Ash'on has now been elected, defeating Mr R. A. Barrowman by one vote. The final figures were: Edwin A3liton 1000, Robert A. Barrowman 999. Deer Stalking. Mr V. R. Balfour Browne, a visitor from Great Britain, who was one of the successful stalkers who spent five weeks in South Westland on Clarke's block, writing to the Westland Acclimatisation Society, states that the eight best heads he secured were one royal 45J inches long and 37in spread, one 13-pointer 42iu long, and 38in spread, one 14 pointer 38in long, both horns broken on a rock, Cin beam, and a strong head, a very old stag, four other royals, and one 11 pointer from 37in to 40in long. Soccer Football. The results of games played yesterday were:—Seniors drew with Taylorville, 2 all; Dobson beat Blackball 2-0; Runanga beat Rewanui 2-1. Schools: — Cobden seniors beat Runanga Convent 2-0; Runanga beat Marist 4-0; School juniors: Runanga State beat Marist 2-0. Greymouth Jockey Club. A meeting of the West Coast District Racing Committee was held on Friday. The Nelson Jockey Club applied for May 2nd and 3rd "of next year as the dates for their Meetings. It was pointed out tha't these dates followed closely on the West Coast fixtures. It

was decided to advise Nelson accord-'i ingly, as there, would not be the time ! available to allow horses to get from the Beef ton Meeting, which will be held, on April 30th, 1930. An application by Leo Young for a jockey's license was recommended. At a meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club subsequent to the District Committee meeting the" New Zealand Racing Conference requested the racing clubs not to make any definite move in regard to the request made by the Egmont Eacing Club to support radio broadcasting from the racecourse. Reefton applied for January 7th and Bth and April 30th, 1930, as their next racing dates. The application was recommended. The chairman advised that he would be unable to represent the club at the Racing Conference to be held in Wellington on July 12th, and Mr H. F. Doogan was appointed in his stead. Bacing Dates. The West Coast circuit of racing dates for summer and autumn, 1930, will be as follows: —December 26th, Westland Racing Club; December 26th and 27th, Westport Trotting Club; December 28th and January Ist, Greymouth Jockey Club; December 30th, Inangahua Trotting Club; January 3rd, Westland Trotting Club; January 4th and 6th, Reef ton Jockey Club; April 12th and 14th, Westport Jockey Club; April 21st, Kumara Jockey Club; April 23rd and 24th, Westland Racing Club; April 26th and 28th, Grey Jockey Club; April 30th, Reefton Jockey Club.
