MAY MEETING. Oa Saturday the New Zealand Whippet R»eln f Club held it. May meeting- at the I*ew Brighton trotting ground, when tho weather waa excellent and the attendance of spectators very fair. The racing was very keen throughout, and some excellent t.mes h«W r " orUed ., ""> outstanding penormances Ueorge Hurdle, Handicap in 13 Y-lOsec, and of Wynaway and Commander, both o£ whom -OOyda Hat Handicap (first-class). lh« following were the results:— ine YVaimairi Handicap, '.iOOyds Flat (second-class)-First heat: j. A great race, Brown Betty leading for the first 120 yds, when she was passed by Nigger Minstrel, Billy Sea, and Tom Pepper. A few yards from the post U-i, o ko N 'SK er Minstrel's race, but Billy bea put in a wonderful finishing run BI "L Won by * foot - Tin, e, 12 3-ssec. C l yde Handicap, 200 yds Flat (for dogs 201b and under)—O. Gould's Ruby Ring (15yds) 1, K. 'Robinson's Little Ruby (scr) 2. A really fine race, four dogs finishing in line. Time, 13 2-ssec.
The Wairiki Handicap, 200 yds Flat (firstclass) —First heat: A. Musson's Lone Star (scr) 1, D. Manson and G. Scott's Manscott (13yds) 2. About 40yds from the post the race appeared to rest between Manscott, Little Ruby, and Miss Comedy, who were running in that order, but Lone Star then came with a marvellous burst of speed and just got ahead in the last stride. Time, 12Jsec. Second heat: Mrs J. R. D. Johns's Wynaway (Iyd) 1, W. F. Grenfell'a Commander (6yds) 2. The Major started badly, and was well out of the Tace. which proved a fine struggle between the two placed does, Wynaway winning by half a length. Time, 12 l-ssec. Final: Commander 1, Manscott 2. Commander ran up to his best form, and won by a length and a half. Manscott just beat Lcme Star for second plnce. .Time, 12 l-ssec. The Georee Hurdles Handicap, 200 yds (over four flights)—-T. R. D. Johns's Tom Pepper (11yds) 1, T. H. Owen's Comedy Lass (12yds) 2. Another fine race. Tom Pepper winning by a length from Comedy Lass, who in turn beat Miss Comedy and Captain Comedy by a short head. Time, 13 7-lOsec.
