A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS. | A meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury A. and P. Association was held yesterday afternoon, -when the president (Mr H. E. Fine ham) occupied the chair. The chairman extended a .welcome to Dr. J. E. Nicholls, a representative of the Bradford Wool and Textile Research Association, and invited him to address the meeting. Dr. Nicholls, who is making a tour and a survey of the wool-producing.Do-minions of the Britisli Empire, said that there was a great misunderstanding between the trade and the producers,, and it was his duty to secure an idea of the conditions under which the New Zealand sheep, for example, were bred and under which the wool was produced. The manufacturers' job was to make the best possible use of the best possible wool, and the producer should keep in mind the production of the best possible wool under the circumstances. He had been asked by the Empire Marketing Board to get in touch with breeders and producers and ascertain - what their difficulties were—why, for instance, a man bred halfbreds instead of merinos, and so on. The manufacturers and the producers were not really antagonistic. Two and a half months in New Zealand was not a very long time, but he hoped to secure a good deal of information in that period. Dr. Nicholls was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address. Access to Wharves. In reply to a letter from the Town Clerk, Christehurch, asking the Association to send a representative to a deputation to wait on the Prime Minister to-day with a view to securing improved access to the wharves at Lyttelton in connexion with the suggested tunnel road, it was decided to support the request for improved access, but not to associate the Association in any way with the tunnel road proposal. The president was appointed the Association's representative on the deputation. General. Mr J. E. H. Archer (Christehurch) and the Imperial Typewriters' Company were elected membefs of the Association. The financial statement showed a credit balance for the month ended February Ist of £974 8s Gd, compared with £1384 12b 2d for the corresponding period last year. The Finance Committee reported that they had considered the Question of making a further grant to the Ashburton and Northern Winter Show bays. Though applications for grants were received only from the Ashburton and Northern Bays' Committees, it was considered inadvisable that any special treatment should be meted out to competitors, and it was decided to recommend., the General Committee to make a grant of £ls each to the four competing bays. The Ashburton Bay Committee submitted a balance-sheet of expenditure, showing a deficit of £49 3s sd, and the Northern A. and P- Association a deficit of £3O. The report was adopted.
