A TIMELY GIFT.
AUSTRALIANS AID HOSPITAL. (CHITBD PRESS ASSOCIATION"—BT EUCtUC TELBGEAPH—COPVBIGHT.) LONDON, January 1. West Australian visitors to London, Mr and Mrs McNess, have given a cheque for £633, enabling the Royal Northern Hospital at Holloway to claim a gift of £35,000 to erect a block of I rivate beds. In a last-minute race against time officials had to collect £35,000 before the dawn of 1929 in order to claim a similar gift from an anonymous donor. They made strenuous efforts to obtain the remaining few hundreds before midnight and were despairing when Mr McNess walked in and promised to make up the deficit. He was an entire stranger to the hospital and declined to give his address.—Australian Press Association, United Service.
