PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.
BIBLE-IN-SCHOOLS QUESTION. (SBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGEAiI.) AUCKLAND, November 29. At the Presbyterian General Assembly, tlie' Rev. Mr Tipler (Dunediu) urged "That the Assembly declares its conviction that the University of New Zealand should,be empowered-to grant degrees in divinity as in ' Britain, Europe, and America, and instructs the Theological College Committee to suggest any movement to bring about this desirable reform." The motion was carried unanimously. Professor John pickie, of Dunedin, was appointed the first principal of tho Theological Hall. Tlje Assembly expressed its. adherence to the platform of the Bible-in-State Schools' League, and urged'all'ministers to take advantage of the Nelson system wherever possible. Considerable disappointment with .the present political position of the'question was expressed by several who took, part in the debate. ; The overture from North Auckland Presbytery in favour of making elders eligible as Moderators of the Presbytery was .approved, to be sent, dowiy'for consideration'by Presbyteries.' The .-.business of the Assembly will conclude to-morrow.
